Brief Description of Project:

The design of the AGNX focuses on creating a space that is both flexible and customizable depending on the current exhibition and events taking place. The nature of an art gallery requires the control of light and space, depending on the piece and artist requirements. Interchangeable post tensioned brick screens can pivot and control not only the layout of the space but also how much natural light enters the gallery. Natural light can be filtered out by using these partitions, or added to enhance the space by creating an entirely different light quality. The kinetic qualities of the partitions allow new spaces to be created depending on the art installed. Each space has both sliding and pivoting walls that reconfigured the space in various ways. One example of this is a hinge like wall that can retract to reveal an expansive three story height space for larger installations, or can be closed off to maintain an intimate environment. This malleability of the interior space puts control back into the hands of the curator and artist to mold the architecture to fit the art.
