Location of Project: Negev Desert, Israel(Palestine)

Year of Project: 2019

Brief Description of Project:

In an area of the desert where a lot of land is polluted with military presence which results in a lack leisure exploration, our project finds its worth in celebrating and appreciating the Negev landscape while commemorating/reflecting on the military context of the site by creating a dialogue between the two. As a reaction to the vastness and isolation of the desert and contextually loaded environment of this site, our project is a sculptural intervention, more specifically a marked site, that invites passersby to access and engage in a curious exploration of the desert landscape and the military occupation within. The repetition/exaggeration of familiar elements usually scarce through he desert creates a different atmosphere putting emphasis on the duality of the land. On one hand the arid and beautiful land and on the other its occupation by military bases and training facilities which pollute the view. Through the experiential landscape people reconnect with the quality of the wilderness and the vestige of the site.
