Set atop one of High Park’s highest points, the centre’s raised viewing platforms span 2-and-a-half storeys and overlook the surrounding forestry and the expansive Grenadier Pond. Its curved walls and facade detailing encapsulates movement, connecting the scattered patterns created by people through space to the fluidity of birds mid-air, as captured through ornithography. Spatially, the centre prioritizes fluidity, yet remains grounded through the central staircase, elevator and detailed wall, positioned towards the cardinal directions. These linear elements align the structure by providing a threshold for vertical activity as well as light, with the windows and main skylight designed to create a spotlight on those travelling up from the entryway to the several viewing decks offered on the second floor. This exploration of vertical movement brings the architectural experience from plan to sectional, drawing the eye towards the peaked roof and reminiscent of birds as they take flight.
