Ignition
Ignition est un événement annuel planifié par l'Association Canadienne des étudiants en Architecture.
Cet événement a pour but de promouvoir l'art et la culture entre les dix écoles canadiennes en Architecture. Chaque année, CASA/ACÉA présente, avec l'aide des représentants de chaque école, un nouveau projet aux étudiants. Ce dernier est divisé en deux volets : Conception et Construction. Chaque école devra concevoir un artéfact d'après les indications du projet et enverra cette conception à une école différente afin qu'elle puisse en exécuter la construction.

The practice of architecture requires an intimate understanding of both the built and natural worlds. Environmental forces, landscapes, and experiential phenomena all play roles in the manifestation of an architectural idea. As the poem explores the life cycle of a Canadian building boom and subsequent bust, the forces of the natural environment become inseparable in their effect from those of the built. This charette seeks to explore this idea further examining how such connections, between the built
and natural environment, can be made manifest through form. Using concrete formwork, an abstraction of the built environment will be prepared to be filled. This formwork will then be sent to another city. Here the formwork will be modified according to an intervention based upon the local natural environment. How do the wheat fields of the prairies relate to the bustle of Toronto’s Taxis? The staircases of Montreal to the light on the West Coast? Through the construction and subsequent modification of formwork these ideas will be explored. This is a collaborative project, fostering connections between schools who rarely get the chance to work together while exploring the connections and relationships that exist among Canada’s built and natural environments. The charette will culminate in an installation of the final concrete forms at the RAIC festival in Toronto.
